Preventive

Regular visits to our dentists are very important.  We examine your mouth carefully, looking for signs of any potential problems, including tooth decay and mouth cancer.

Our hygienists play a key role in helping you to maintain a fresh and healthy mouth. During your visit, they remove harmful plaque from your teeth, and polish them to help keep further plaque at bay.

They will discuss your diet and eating habits with you, and recommend preventive measures to help you avoid dental decay, erosion and gum disease.

We can also check your breath to ensure it is fresh, using our scientifically proven Halimeter®.

Specialist gum care is available for those patients who need it.

Gum disease - your teeth's hidden enemy

Gum disease is usually painless in its early stages, which means it often goes unnoticed. But it can cause havoc with your mouth, and if left untreated can cause lasting damage and even tooth loss.

It is caused by a constantly-forming sticky layer of bacteria called plaque which builds up on the teeth, and irritates the gums making them red and swollen.

Early symptoms include bad breath, bleeding or sore gums and a bad taste in your mouth. If left to progress, the disease can develop into periodontitis, which can eventually lead to tooth loss.

Gum disease is also increasingly being linked with other health problems, including heart disease, strokes and diabetes, making it even more important that you make every effort to avoid its harmful effects.
